Art Jam Events
on Saturday Aug 24, 2024
(In Alphabetical Order)
Art Stations may have limited supplies and cannot guarantee all festival attendees will be able to participate. Thank you for your understanding.
Farrell Elliott
Mindful, relaxing art activities with an emphasis on art as a form of therapy.
Helix Art Therapy
Amelie Blanchard will invite participants to take part in a feeling check in and walk them through a little bit of a process to see what the feeling has to say and what it may need. She will talk about her work as an art therapist and provide brochures and business cards. This activity will be by donation.
Kathleen Shmalz
Kathleen Schmalz will demonstrate the use of Cold Wax medium with oil paint. This unique medium creates a textured surface that combines with oil paint to create a completely matt textured and luminescent surface. For the bold at heart, young and old, Kathleen will supply plastic gloves and some aprons so you can contribute to a group cold wax piece by adding oil pastel and cold wax layers and textures.
Kim Reavley
Kim Reavley will bring examples of her woodwork, along with piece of Baltic Birch wood material to explain her artistic process from start to finish.
Ladysmith Musical Arts
Ladysmith Musical Arts is thrilled to be included in this year's ArtJam! Come by their tent for fun Musical Theatre activities like Musical Theatre Bingo, activity books for the kids (or kids at heart!) and more! Come say hello after LMA's successful run of Little Shop of Horrors and see what they're up to next!
Lise Saurette
Activity: Kelp Art creations.
Maggie Wouterloot
Come and learn Shibori! It is the ancient Japanese art of fabric tie dying that has been practiced and perfected for centuries. At Art Jam you’ll have the chance to come and fold, squeeze, bind and clamp to make delightful patterns on cotton fabrics.
Scentient Sessions
Activity: We will provide (free, kid-friendly) scented fragrance cards to participants, and encourage them to develop their vocabulary for describing scents and to explore other sensory connections to the scents.
We'll bring about 15 distinct scents. Each of these will be represented by a monster mascot.
Participants will be encouraged to share their impressions with the community on notes left beside each monster mascot.
Tammy Tait
Tammy Tait will guide participants through a simple weaving exercise that creates a bright and cheery hanging wool tapestry, in the shape of an "Ojo de Dios" (God's eye).
Tylor McNeil
Local artist Tylor McNeil will be encouraging both young and old, artists and non-artists alike, to paint their dreams. Participants will be using acrylic paint on wood panels to create visual representations of their aspirations, hopes, and imagination. When finished, they will have the option to either display their work alongside Tylor’s solo exhibition at the Ladysmith Gallery, located at the corner of 1st Avenue and High Street, or take their masterpieces home to cherish.
Vancouver Island Sculpting Studio
Joel Prevost and Dee Fontans from Vancouver Island Sculpting Studio will conduct a sculpting demonstration and present those interested with information about classes and the various services provided by the organization.
